April 2016 - Portfolio and Dividends Update

Monday, May 02, 2016 5 Comments A+ a-

A record breaking month so far in this journey! Not so much activity as trades go but I did add another 50 shares of Telus which bring my total shares up to 100. Next month I will top up a few other positions as I'd like to see each of them bring in a least $100 a dividend per quarter. Don't ask me why but I find it motivating to see 3 digit dividends more so than 2 :)

May will definitely see a few more trades than usual as I'm close to filling up the TFSA account now. After that I may switch gears and focus on the destroying the mortgage for a little while...

Dividends received for April 2016:

BNS, TD and TRP increased dividends this month

Corus Entertainment$9.50
Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS)$72.00
Bell Canada (BCE)$17.06
RioCan Real Estate$11.75
TD Bank$55.00
Transcanada Corp (TRP)$27.12
Total:
$192.43

Purchases this month:
  • Telus - 50 shares @ 40.88 = $2044.00
Total amount of new purchases this month: $2044.00

Portfolio Update

The total portfolio is now at: $41,381.20

As of today:

I have received a total of $571.29 in dividends this year. The portfolio will generate about $1830/yr which is $153 per month on average of tax-free income.

Nice work. I love breaking records, especially when it's a dividend income record.

Always nice to make a record breaking month. Just means you are doing the right thing and headed in the right direction with your passive income stream. I always like to see Canadian banks paying others for a particular month. Shows I'm not alone in liking them.

Great job DA. So happy to see another Canadian DGIer. Love the names you got in your portfolio. Keep it up; I'm watching. :)
