September 2015 - Dividends

Friday, October 02, 2015 5 Comments A+ a-

September is officially in the books now. The beginning of the month has become one of my favourite past times now when I get to look back and see how things have progressed in the monthly dividend updates.

Last year at this time the portfolio consisted of one stock and it wouldn't be until Dec of 2014 where I would receive my first dividend payment for a whopping $7.27!  In only one short year, I'm closing in on having an estimated $80 month now. Never thought this would be possible...

One of my goals for 2015 was to bring in at least $500 of dividend income for the year, and I'm about 81% there - which looks to be on track. I was also pushing to contribute roughly 30k into my portfolio this year but that looks like it's going to be super tight to achieve since I've got about 9k left to contribute to make it there. It was a lofty goal starting from scratch, but I think I made damn good progress and worked hard to get things where they are today. First world problems...

Ok - let's see what dividends we got going on in September:

Corus Entertainment (CJR.B)$9.50
Canadian Utilities (CU)$8.85
RioCan Real Estate (REI.UN)$11.75
Sun Life Financial (SLF)$19.00

As of today:

I have received $403.48 in dividends this year. The portfolio will generate about $989/year which is around $82.40 on average per month tax-free income.

Total Portfolio: $21,445.36

Congrats on your dividend income. What a difference a year makes? Keep buying high quality names and with fresh capital, reinvestment and dividend raises you'll be well on your way to your annual goal.

Nice job on your dividends so far this year. Looks like 2016 will top more that $1,000 collected. Keep up the good work.

Actual amount will probably be closer to 500-600 this year but forward looking dividends per year should be pretty close. Cheers and thanks for stopping by.
